REMINDER: Mario Sbriccoli Prize (Deadline for applications: December 15th 2013)


In short: The Mario Sbriccoli Prize, established by the University of Macerata thanks to the financial support of Mrs Annabianca Sbriccoli, aims at remembering the work of the scholar who has brought great prestige to the University of Macerata. The Prize consists in granting 1 scholarship, of a gross amount of € 5,000.00, for carrying out research work. The research topic selected will have to concern the disciplinary fields of the History of penal law and criminal justice, within either the Italian or International spheres. The Prize will be awarded to the best research project presented by scholars from all over the world, of no more than 45 years of age.
 
Deadline for applications:  15th of December 2013 at 1.00 p.m. (the postmark serves as proof of sending).

ANNOUNCEMENT OF SELECTION EXAM

PREMIO MARIO SBRICCOLI - MARIO SBRICCOLI PRIZE

The Mario Sbriccoli Prize, established by the University of Macerata thanks to the financial support of Mrs Annabianca Sbriccoli, aims at remembering the work of the scholar who has brought great prestige to the University of Macerata. It also has the intent of contributing to a better knowledge and enhancement of the value of the "Mario Sbriccoli" Specialist book collection acquired by the University of Macerata.



Article 1 1. The Prize consists in granting N°. 1 scholarship, of a gross amount of € 5,000.00, for carrying out research work.

2. The research work will be carried out, for not less than 45 days, at the "Mario Sbriccoli" Specialist book collection hosted within the Library of Studi storici (Historical Studies) of the Department of Law of the University of Macerata, Via Garibaldi 20.

3. The research topic selected will have to concern the disciplinary fields of the History of penal law and criminal justice, within either the Italian or International spheres.

4. Research time at the "Sbriccoli" Specialist book collection must contribute to the compiling of a scientific essay which may be published, in English or French, upon being previously accepted by the Editorial Committee, in the Crime, History & Societies journal (Librairie Droz).



Article 2


1. The Prize will be awarded to the best research project presented by scholars from all over the world, of no more than 45 years of age, and this must concern the disciplinary fields of The History of penal law and criminal justice, whether within the Italian or International spheres.

2. Candidates must have been awarded a Ph.D. title recognised throughout the world.

Article 3 1. The application to take part in the Prize award, to be drawn up on a signed sheet of A4 paper or else in accordance with the Appendix 1 form (enclosed), must be submitted (personally presented or sent to), at the risk of being excluded, by and not later than the 15th of December 2013 on the 1.00 p.m. (the postmark serves as proof of sending), to the following address:

2. On the envelope, the surname, name, address of the candidate, the words: "Premio Mario Sbriccoli – Mario Sbriccoli Prize" must be clearly visible as well.


3. The Administration assumes no responsibility in the case of loss of communications resulting from inexact information, on the part of the candidate, as regards the address on the envelope of the office to which to send the application, his / her residence and address given in the application, or from omitted or late communication of any change of the same, neither in the case of eventual wrong postal or telegraph deliveries, nor in all cases which, however, may be attributed to third parties, to fortuitous event or force majeure.



Article 4 1. On the application, undersigned, the candidate must declare, assuming all responsibility, and in accordance with article 76 of the DPR (Presidential decree) N°. 445/2000:

a. the surname, name place and date of birth, tax code, residence and address chosen for the purposes of selection (specifying the post/ZIP code and, where possible, a telephone number where you may be reached);

b. the possession of qualifications as required in article 2, paragraph 2, of the present announcement, also indicating date of award, thesis title as well as the University where it was awarded;

c. being committed to immediately communicating all changes regarding residence or address as shown in the application;

d. authorising treatment of personal information, in accordance with legislative decree of 30th June 2003, N°. 196;

e. being aware that any false declarations made are punishable in accordance with law.

 


Article 51. The following documentation must be attached to the application, at the risk of being excluded from the selection exam:

a. full photocopy of a current and valid document showing identity;

b. scientific, professional curriculum (drawn up on A4 sheets, dated and signed) and eventual list of publications;

c. certification relating to completion of a Ph.D.;

d. research project in accordance with article 2, paragraph 1.

2. The Ph.D. title in article 2, paragraph 2 may be self-certified, in accordance with D.P.R. (Presidential decree) 28th December 2000, N°. 445, for those candidates who were awarded it in Italy. Candidates possessing an academic title awarded abroad, which has not yet been declared as being of equal value to the Italian title in accordance with law currently in force, must attach all documents useful for the declaration of being of equal value by the Judging Commission for the sole purposes of participation in the procedure of selection.


3. Those applications that are not signed, those devoid of personal information, of the documentation and declarations indicated in the present article, of exact wording of the selection exam he / she intends to take part in whether on the envelope or on the application form, as well as those applications submitted after the deadline indicated by article 3 of the current announcement will not be considered. Those candidates whose application has not been accepted for the selection exam will be notified by registered post.

4. Status, facts and personal information self-certified by the winner of the current selection procedure may be liable for, by the University of Macerata, appropriate checks regarding the truthfulness of their claims.

 


Article 6 1. The Adjudication commission, named by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Macerata, will be made up of scholars of unequivocal repute.

2. The Commission will judge upon:

a. the scientific relevance, original nature and congruousness of the research project presented as regards the fields of the History of penal law and criminal justice;


b. the scientific curriculum and publications of the candidate.

3. The Commission will draw up a list of the judged candidates based on merits, designating the winner.

4. The list is approved by Decree of the Vice-Chancellor, is immediately effective and will be published on the web site of the University www.ricercascientifica.unimc.it .

5. Prompt communication of awarding of research grant will be given to the winner of the Prize.

6. Within 15 days of the date of receiving communication of grant award, the winner must issue a declaration of unreserved acceptance of the grant as per conditions outlined in the current announcement arrive at the Administration office.

7. In case of waiver before the beginning of the activity or of resolution for unjustified failure to begin research work, the scholarship may be awarded to candidates who are suitable in accordance with their position in the list.

Article 71. The scholarship, subject of the Prize, must be consumed by the month of June 2015.


2. The scholarship will be 50% issued upon beginning of research activity and the other 50% will be attributed at research activity’s end, upon presentation of a final report as per paragraph 3 of the current article.

3. The recipient will have the obligation of:

a. carrying on research activity at the "Mario Sbriccoli" Specialist book collection hosted within the Library of Studi storici (Historical Studies) of the Department of Law of the University of Macerata, Via Garibaldi 20;

b. presenting, at the end of the research activity, a concluding report on research completed to the University Rector.

4. The recipient may turn down the scholarship during the time of research, upon written communication giving fifteen days’ notice. Payment of research activity will be proportional to the time of activity carried on with eventual reimbursement of that which has already been awarded as partial payment.

Article 8 1. In accordance with article 13 of D. lgs. (Legislative Decree) N°. 196 of 30.06.2003, personal information provided by the candidates in the application for participating in the selection exam, will be treated for the sole purposes of the procedure leading to the awarding of the scholarship and for later management of related procedural activities.
